How to Install Smart TV Firmware From USB – Smart TV Guide
Official step-by-step technician instructions, hardware safety precautions, and troubleshooting procedures.
Prerequisites & Tools Needed
FAT32 formatted USB thumb drive (8GB or 16GB recommended, USB 2.0), verified firmware binary, physical TV control keys.
⚠ Safety & Operating Precautions
Do NOT turn off power or remove the USB drive during the flashing sequence. A power loss during NAND/eMMC flashing will corrupt the bootloader.
USB firmware flashing rewrites the entire operating system, bootloader, kernel, and vendor partition table on the TV's eMMC storage.
Drive Preparation
Use a clean USB 2.0 flash drive formatted to FAT32 (MBR partition style). Android TV bootloaders commonly fail to detect GPT partition schemes or drives larger than 32GB.
Extract & Copy Target Firmware
Extract the downloaded firmware archive (.zip or .rar). Locate the firmware binary file—typically ending in .bin, .pkg, .img, or named update.zip, CtvUpgrade.bin, or allupgrade_*.bin. Move or copy this file directly into the root directory of the USB drive. Do not store it inside any subfolder.
Flashing Execution & Setup Sequence
- Disconnect the AC power cord from the TV for at least 60 seconds.
- Insert the prepared USB flash drive into the primary USB 2.0 port (often labeled USB 1 or Service).
- Press and hold the physical Power button on the TV chassis (not the remote control).
- Reconnect AC power while keeping the Power button pressed.
- Release the button after 5–10 seconds when the standby LED flashes rapidly or the 'Upgrading Software… Please Do Not Turn Off' progress bar appears.
- Allow the installation progress to reach 100%. The TV will automatically reboot.
